About
Joe Martinelli, owner of Uneed Martial Arts, is a true Resilient Mentor, turning a challenging youth into a profound philosophy for personal growth. He expertly guides others to build confidence and discipline, not through aggression, but by understanding the psychology of self and overcoming life's pressures. Joe’s insights extend from the mat to entrepreneurship, child development, and the art of staying the course, even when growth feels messy.
Joe Martinelli was raised by a mother who refused to let fear define her children’s future. After surviving an abusive childhood, she made one promise to herself: her kids would know how to protect themselves. That promise turned into midnight drills, anti-abduction scenarios, and eventually a life in martial arts that Joe never planned—but slowly chose. What began as obligation became identity.
At 15, burned out and bullied out of his first school, Joe was ready to quit. Then he met a mentor who asked a simple question: “What do you want to be?” When Joe answered, “A martial arts instructor,” his teacher replied, “I feel bad for you. That means you have to learn everything.” That conversation reshaped his future. Years later, after running a tournament he thought was a complete failure, his mentor gave him another lesson in perspective: pressure feels bigger when you’re inside it. Growth often looks messy.
Today, Joe runs Uneed Martial Arts in Glendale, Arizona, with a different philosophy than the stereotypes most people carry about martial arts. It isn’t about aggression. It isn’t about violence. It’s about discipline, awareness, and building confidence without ego. His school trains kids to yell, run, resist, and react under pressure. It trains adults to bet on themselves. It trains families to have uncomfortable conversations together.
At its core, this conversation is about mentorship, responsibility, and the long game of building something that lasts. Entrepreneurship. Teaching. Parenting. All of it requires the same thing: staying the course when others can’t see what you see.
